PHACOEMULSIFICATION

With the advances in surgical techniques and lens replacement the cataract surgery is one of the safest and most effective surgeries. Cataract surgery is the most common surgery performed on persons age 65 and older. During phacoemulsification the surgeon makes a small incision (2.8 mm), and with a probe that vibrates with ultrasound waves, break up the cataract and suction out the fragments. Once the cataract has been removed a clear artificial lens (IOL) is implanted.
